Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through six months of participant observation and in-depth interviews with eight key informants. The research explores how Salafi Muslim women internalize, negotiate, and practice hadith teachings daily, particularly in public settings. The findings reveal that these study groups significantly shape individual and collective expressions of piety. Participants exhibit varied approaches to negotiating religious teachings, with some finding clarity and structure, while others experience ambiguities, creating space for personal interpretation. This variation underscores the complex relationship between religious texts and individual agency, aligning with theoretical perspectives on spiritual practice. Additionally, the study highlights the importance of these groups in reinforcing social identities and facilitating engagement in public spaces. The research contributes to broader discussions on religious agency and public piety, providing insights into how Salafi Muslim women navigate the intersection of spiritual devotion and modern public life. Limitations include the focus on a specific group and reliance on self-reported data. Future studies should explore how piety is expressed across social and cultural contexts to deepen understanding of its role in public participation.
Marhumah Marhumah, Iffah Khoiriyatul Muyyassaroh, Rosalia Sciortino Copyright (c) 2024 Marhumah, Iffah Khoiriyatul Muyyassaroh, Rosalia Sciortino https://ejournal.iainmadura.ac.id/index.php/karsa/article/view/15440 Sun, 22 Dec 2024 00:00:00 +0700 The Religious Values Existence on Pekalongan Batik Cultural Heritage https://ejournal.iainmadura.ac.id/index.php/karsa/article/view/14323
This study explores the cultural heritage of Pekalongan batik, which holds the identity of the City of Batik and the City of Santri. The analysis focuses on the economic, cultural, and Islamic roles and how they determine the existence of batik businesses that have persisted until now. This study uses a cultural approach with case study analysis and finds that batik businesses transmit a cultural heritage that continues from generation to generation until batik becomes a cultural identity and the lifeblood of Pekalongan's economy. Cultural transmission occurs socially, through learning processes, interaction among peers, socialization in society, skill mastery cadreship, and batik business management. As a source of grassroots economy, batik is integrated into society's daily activities, crystallizing in mindset as tradition and implicating in the development and preservation of batik that always follows the dynamics of the times. The cultural inheritance of batik cannot be separated from the role of religion, which serves as a source of moral vitality and a means to preserve the existence and sustainability of batik business.
Tri Astutik Haryati, Amat Zuhri, Mohammad Kosim, Harapandi Dahri Copyright (c) 2024 Tri Astutik Haryati, Amat Zuhri, Mohammad Kosim, Harapandi Dahri https://ejournal.iainmadura.ac.id/index.php/karsa/article/view/14323 Sun, 22 Dec 2024 00:00:00 +0700 Islamization in South Sulawesi and Its Institutionalisation As The State Religion (1605–1611) https://ejournal.iainmadura.ac.id/index.php/karsa/article/view/13834
This paper explains how changing Islam, previously the religion of the people of South Sulawesi, became the state religion (Gowa-Tallok Kingdom). Placing the right context in institutionalizing Islam in the Gowa-Tallok Kingdom can explain how Islamization in South Sulawesi took place until 1611. The historical method is used, which focuses on the causal aspects of the events being studied. The causal aspect of events is based on the narrative contained in the sources and references referred to as a marker of library research. This paper explains that the conversion of Islam in South Sulawesi society occurred long before Islam became the state religion. Adaptively, the people of South Sulawesi have been exposed to Islam through a network of Muslim traders and muballigh for 125 years. The people of South Sulawesi had been familiar with the teachings of Islam, subject to external pressures that favored the conversion of local religions to Islam. When Islam was institutionalized as the state religion, it took only 7 (seven) years to convert the people of South Sulawesi to Islam. By 1611, South Sulawesi had been Islamized, except for the mountainous areas in the north.
Nasihin Nasihin, St. Junaeda, Fatjri Nur Tajuddin Copyright (c) 2024 Nasihin, St. Junaeda, Fatjri Nur Tajuddin https://ejournal.iainmadura.ac.id/index.php/karsa/article/view/13834 Mon, 23 Dec 2024 00:00:00 +0700 Islamic Law Frameworks for Addressing Marriage Delays during Public Health Crises https://ejournal.iainmadura.ac.id/index.php/karsa/article/view/16096
This study examines the postponement of marriages at the Office of Religious Affairs (KUA) in Koto Tangah District during the COVID-19 pandemic as an effort to address health and social challenges, focusing on the perspective of Islamic law. The government's social restrictions led many couples to postpone or cancel their weddings, especially during the large-scale social restrictions period. This research aims to understand marriage postponement as a strategy to navigate pandemic challenges from an Islamic law perspective in Koto Tangah District, Padang City, and its impact on couples and society. The method used is field research with a descriptive qualitative approach. The findings show that marriage postponement was effectively carried out through schedule coordination with couples despite pressure from the brides and grooms. Health protocols were the primary reason for the delay, and KUA strictly limited the number of weddings if safety standards were not met. The postponements had significant psychological and economic effects on the couples, while society had mixed responses to the policy. KUA faced challenges in implementing marriage delays, especially regarding facilities and communication with engaged couples
Desminar Desminar, Habibulloh Habibulloh, Romi Saputra, Dinil Abrar Sulthani, Andi Irawan Copyright (c) 2024 Desminar Desminar, Habibulloh Habibulloh, Romi Saputra, Dinil Abrar Sulthani, Andi Irawan https://ejournal.iainmadura.ac.id/index.php/karsa/article/view/16096 Sat, 28 Dec 2024 00:00:00 +0700 The Dialectics of Godhead in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam: Philosophical and Historical Perspectives https://ejournal.iainmadura.ac.id/index.php/karsa/article/view/13168
The issue of Godhead is a principal ideological problem, so historical-theological and philosophical studies are necessary to clarify scientific positions to strengthen arguments. The study in this paper is an attempt to trace the three Samawi religions (Abrahamic religions), which in its findings, it turns out that several conclusions have basic similarities. This paper is the result of qualitative research with literature studies from various literature to reveal historical problems that try to reduce unilateral claims based on the theological tendencies of each religion. With a historical-philosophical approach, the author attempts to provide descriptions and arguments regarding the fusion of human belief systems. The findings obtained in this paper are to understand the ideological-historical aspect, where it turns out that among Samawi religions, there is an evolution of belief systems in God. Then, they are used as theological and ideological systems.
Amirudin Amirudin, Heramb Kulkarni, Muhammad Iqbal Al Ghozali, Abdul Karim Copyright (c) 2024 Amirudin Amirudin, Heramb Kulkarni, Muhammad Iqbal Al Ghozali, Abdul Karim https://ejournal.iainmadura.ac.id/index.php/karsa/article/view/13168 Sat, 28 Dec 2024 00:00:00 +0700
