Abstract
Crime is unlawful behavior and social norms that anyone can commit and have consequences for the economy of a country and its institutional stability. According to Global Peace Index, Indonesia is at its 47th rate, which would be categorized as an unsafe country. The study aims to identify the effects of poverty, unemployment and the human development index (IPM) on crime rates in Indonesia. The study employed a quantitative approach as well as a method of Error Correction Model (ECM). The data used are published by Statistics Indonesia (BPS) in the period 2008-2021. The results of this study indicate that poverty and unemployment in the short term have no significant effect on crime rates. Poverty and unemployment in the long run have a significant effect on the crime rate. While the HDI has no significant effect both in the short and long term on the crime rate.
