Abstract
Indonesia dilihat dari kondisi sosio-kultural dan geografis begitu beragam dan luas. Keragaman ini apabila tidak disadari dapat menimbulkan berbagai persoalan seperti: diskriminasi, separatisme, fanatisme, radikalisme, dan hilangnya rasa kemanusiaan untuk selalu menghormati hak-hak orang lain. Permasalahan tersebut dapat dipecahkan diantaranya melalui pendidikan multikultural sebagai tawaran alternatif yang berbasis pada pemanfaatan keragaman seperti keragaman etnis, budaya, agama, status sosial, gender dan ras. Pendidikan ini tidak hanya bertujuan agar siswa mudah memahami pelajaran, tetapi juga membina karakter mereka agar selalu berperilaku humanis, pluralis dan demokratis.
